So I have been working tirelessly on this project for Baby L's birthday party coming up next week. I got the idea for a dum dum tree online and I told M Daddy about it. He says nonchalantly, "why don't you add minnie mouse ears to it?". Why didn't I think of that!? Maybe I need to use him for ideas more often ;)
Basically I reused a cheap planter, spray painted it black, hot-glued ribbon around the top and then put a matching gift bow on the front. Then I spray painted some styrofoam black and placed in planter. I bought styrofoam balls (1 large and 2 smaller ones) from a local craft store. I then cut the dum dum sticks in half and arranged them haphazardly (this still needs a little touching up because some foam is still showing but you get the idea). Then I took wooden skewers and attached the foam balls to the foam base to keep it sturdy.
Let me just tell you, I started off buying 3 bags of dum dums for this...I ended up going back to the store TWICE for 4 more bags. I think it's worth it though, I love it!
P.S.- I will be straightening up her ears too, I just noticed she's lopsided ;)

Its nice you live where its sunny...after you have your baby you buy that dress!! Here in KY I'll be needing sweaters probably!
That is ADORABLE! I'll have to keep that in mind! I had thought about doing a candy themed birthday party for Lydia's next birthday!
